Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SB 282 -- COUNTY FACILITIES

SPONSOR: Shields (Brown)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Local Government by a vote of 16 to 0.

This bill increases the amount of time a county of the first
classification may issue a lease or concession grant for public
facilities from five to seven years. The bill also increases the
amount of time a county may operate the facility without seeking
competitive bids from three to seven years.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that it is difficult for the county
to find someone to bid for a five-year period. Persons entering
a business want a longer time period if they are going to invest
money in a business.

Testifying for the bill was Senator Shields.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
